Ditto what Sid said about being a "quick-fix" band-aid. One thing to remember when installing a rubber plug - get the hole CLEAN & DRY. If there are traces of AF/oil/grease they have a habit of popping back out. Another plus is that if the cast hole is deformed in anyway and will not accept a metal plug these will do the job nicely.
