It sounds like you've already done everything you should have to prevent
any further misuse of your CC info. However, you need to make sure you have
also done everything you can to prevent this from happening to you in the
future.
Make sure you have the latest version of your favorite browser, with the
highest level encryption available - with Internet Explorer you would want
version 5.01 with 128 bit encryption. I'm not sure about Netscape or other
browsers. When making online purchases, make sure the server you are
connected to is a "secure" server. The website will probably advertise this,
but your browser should have an indicator for verification. Look for a
physical address and phone number for the website. If they only exist on the
'net, consider them suspect. Reputable companies will almost always have a
(snail)mailing address and phone number. I like to call the company the
first time I order just to see what kind of place I'm dealing with. Make
sure you have antivirus software running, and update its virus definitions
often (I update weekly). It is possible for a virus to lurk on your system
and basically read your keystrokes, waiting for a credit card-like number to
be entered, then transmit that number to a malicious hacker. You may want to
consider a personal firewall to warn you of unexpected transmissions or
intrusions. Go to www.zonealarm.com for a very good free personal firewall.
ZoneAlarm can prevent all but the most sophisticated attempts to access your
computer, and can log all internet activity for you so you can potentially
locate any offending website.

Good luck!

Hello,

I am sorry to bombard the list so please if you will respond off the List.

My wife ordered some baby stuff off of the internet and it nows appears that
our credit card number was intercepted by someone. So far we have "ordered"
jewelry, computers, cameras.... etc.

I cancelled the card on Friday and most of these orders were made on Friday.
It appears that they are having these shipments delivered to my house via
UPS. My guess is that they will have a lookout waiting for the UPS driver
and then if I am not home they will follow the driver around the block and
present the UPS tag and pretend to be Mary. If I am home and I refuse
shipment then the criminals lose nothing.

I know that there is retaliation and other ways of getting back at these
vermin but that is not my concern at this time. Believe me when I say that
I
have a few firehouse buddies at the ready if I wanted them to wait with me
for the driver to appear. No... I have a baby girl and a wife and I would
not put myself in that situation.

I would like to know if there is anyone out there that can give me solid
advise besides calling the credit card company to cancel the card. Would
this affect any of my other CC accounts? This card was actually under Marys
maiden name.

I have already spoken to the CC representative and they advised me that
those
purchases would not be charged against us. Although we do need to fill out
specific documents.

Thanks List!
