"If you're on a budget, go to the local junkyard and get an HEI dist. out
of a 350 Buick. Puts out more juice than those aftermarket things
anyhow. You just have to releive your intake of a lot of material to
make it fit (but hey, you shouldn't have to pay more than 10 bucks for
one). Also, some of the older Rover V8's have the oil pump drive
backwards from buick, it means that you might have to lop the end of the
HEI dist. off and put the drive coupling off your Lucas Dist. on it."

By any chance do you know what year the Rover V8's had the oil pump spinning
in the correct direction (mines in an NAS '89 Range Rover 3.9). Any
particular year Buick for the donor?

I just checked into getting an HEI unit from Performance Distributors. They
sell them as Davis Unified Ignitions. They are basically the same as the GM
units, but they are new and they will tailor them to your needs including
timing advance curve and drive gear if needed. They want $289 for the one
that is compatible with a Buick 350.
