In this case, "they" are the folks at Foreign Affair. Not knowing much about
this myself, I asked and they said they have an aftermarket source of reman
axles that they say last as long as the Honda originals. I have no idea how
true this is, but they do seem to be a reputable shop.
If just one CV joint needs replacing, they said they use an OEM Honda CV
joint. But if the inner CV is also gone, they say they recommend replacing the
entire assembly as it is much cheaper.
Based on what you said, it sounds like I better ask them how long they'll
warranty the reman axles, before making that decision. I hope it doesn't come
to that because it looks like the car might only need one outbound CV joint on
the driver's side, in which case I'm lucky and the service is cheap even using
an OEM Honda CV joint.

I'm not sure who "they" are, but my experience (as a Honda/Acura service
advisor for 4 years) with the reman axles is that they tend to be good for
about 2 years. Then, when the noise comes back, and you realize your
mistake, you can't always replace the outer joint with a new OEM Honda one,
because the splines won't always match up with the reman axle shaft, as the
reman parts are from sort of unknown sources...
