Agreed, but anyone can try to get it right in 3 runs, regardless of how
many runs there are.

I think that the vast majority of drivers (novice and non-novice) like
having more runs to perfect their runs. They can concentrate more on
driving and less on finding their way thru the course.

The local fast drivers can still try to win the first 3 runs, and they
have tours and divisionals to prove that.

So, IMHO, the extra runs in one direction are a good thing for many
folks.
