After you remove the filler cap there is still a connector pipe, the pipe the cap screws into. This Pipe is flush with the rear deck, is about two inches long, and the distance between the connector

Certainly one solution is to install the later gas cap, which is the one Dave is clearly talking about ! For the early one, the only way I could find was to cut the old rubber hose in half to remove

You can install that hose with the tank in the car! I installed that same hose when I restored my TR3. I had already put the tank in the car, but the upholstery and the trunk finish panel was not in

Not all TR3 filler caps just pull off. Earlier ones threaded into the sleeve portion, which could not come out from the top. You need to unthread the filler cap, slide the hose section all the way do

I was able to do it without removing the fuel tank. As I recall, I removed the filler cap and installed the hose on the fuel tank, and then replaced the filler cap. Sumner Weisman 62 TR3B TSF263L Go

You describe it exactly the way I remember it. It can be done without taking the tank loose, but it definately isn't easy. I seem to remember trimming the robber connecter so it was just long enough
