Turbochargers on diesel rigs will spin up to about 120,000 rpm + They do have a nice sound to them!

Turbos that size are turning about 50 or 60 thousand RPM. But some smaller units will spin twice that, around 120 thousand RPM. You can look at a compressor map for a given turbo and see how much air

Diesel turbos are a little different from gas engine turbos -- in that they need to run at (or at least near) 100% most of the time so the engine can make proper hp. Gas engine -- turbo idles along,
