what I prefer is a hidden switch somewhere in the car that disconnects the fuel pump (electrical pump required !!! TR6, Stag, ...). So the car will start just fine ... run not more than a mile ... a

No, one year is not very long. The inner seals tend to glue when not used daily or weekly. So I recommend depressing the clutch at least once a week. Make sure that the outer seals are well greased

No. the original Triumph V8 came with 3.0 litre. It's the Rover that had 3.5 litre. So that's the one in your TR8. (and the foundry slag removed from the block) it runs quite well. (I'm only saying
