Mine were dirty aluminum. I tried cleaning them up, but they still looked like crap. I ended up using Dupli-Color "Ceramic" Engine Enamel on them (Cast Coat Aluminum DE-1650) on them. I used a scotch

If you have a drill, buy a sand paper bit, they are round with a lot of flaps ( what they are called eludes me) It will remove any black paint or grease or road tar and return your trailing are to it

Or you can sandblast ( or prefereably bead blast) them and paint them with an aluminum paint as a lot of restorers seem to do. You have to paint them with some clear at least or they won't stay very

I had real good luck sandblasting the swingarms and painting with Duplicolor Engine Enamel (500 degree) Cast Coat Aluminum, DE 1650. The color matched the raw aluminum very closely. Larry M CD5182L

They were natural aluminum - powdercoated mine with argent silver, then clear topcoat - still looks fantastic and cleans easy while you rear brake is off, you should be able to see where the date the
