Always, always wear a full face helmet in any race car. A couple of
years ago I had a gas fire in my Porsche 356 Coupe and a fireball (my
new nickname) rolled through the cockpit. It toasted the race seat
fabric, my drivers suit, the headliner, lots of paint, etc., but never
even touched my mug. The helmet was completely black with soot but
cleaned up nicely and continued to be used. Our race group, RMVR, does
not require full face helmets in an enclosed car but I am sure glad that
is what I was wearing that day.
