I raced with SVRA for 12 years and I can't imagine if the car in question was
a GT40 or Porsche that had or could have had period Gulf corporate sponsorship
wouldn't have been allowed. Now if you owned a Gulf station or your buddy did
and wanted to paint "Joe's Gulf, foreign car specialists" or such on the side
of your TR3 or MGA, then no, that would not be allowed above the 200 sq. in
max allowed in most classes. Other class such as Group 4 (pre-1960 sports
racers) outlaw all advertising, not period and since none existed in period,
the cars show none.

    What group did you get that determination from?  I would hope that
original advertising would be, if not encouraged, at least allowed.
    I do race VSCCA which I believe bans advertising, but with a '59 cut-off,
there wouldn't be too much in the way of problems there...
