I've often wondered about that, since the car I went through my SCCA school
with was the old Different Drummer Datsun 510 which ran Trans-Am. The original
log book had been lost but Detroit Region had the records which matched the
roll bar number and I think the original book was issued in '72. I kept
photocopies when we sold it to California in 87.

I was a Trans Am driver in 1969, 1970 and 1971 for B.F. Goodrich driving
variations of the "Tirebird" and we did NOT have a log book for eather
vehicle and we ran Daytona, Sebring and both Trans Am and SCCA Nationals
in the cars.
Must have been 72 when they started.
