Well you've already had positive and negative votes for every type of
awning/canopy - but
one aspect has not been given sufficient weight in my humble opinion. I find
that at at
least 50% of races I go to [mid-west, eastern states, Canada] there is a good
chance of a
storm of some kind, In which you BETTER get the canopy/awning down or it will
take itself
down. That being so there are two choices -
- [a] take a full crew and choose any type of canopy/awning you like
- [b] use the automatic roll-up type - they are not perfect BUT THEY ARE THE
BEST
COMPROMISE.
Of course, unlike Myles, I do have a "real" race car that will go underneath
the sloping
poles - sorry Myles.
And, Brian, the door is not a problem - the little wheel works perfectly.
Final comment - 10' or 15' really isn't long enough. Both sun and rain have a
sneaky habit
of getting in the ends. Go for 20' on your 22' trailer - I did - never
regretted it. Final
final comment - IF it looks like gentle rain with no chance of gusty winds or
thunder
storm you can hang on an "end" with bungy type cords - otherwise forget it -
easier to
clean up water then twisted canopy/poles. Oh - one more last comment - most
erector set
awnings hold water like a lake - either keeps you busy "poking" it out while it
rains - or
brings the canopy down while you're sleeping in the motel.
PS - automatic roll ups are only 8' wide but you can add an extension flap in
the
accessory groove then tie it down with stakes or ballast - keep it all low and
it will
keep the floods off the car.
