Workers make our sport possible. No doubt about it. I appreciate every
one of them.
It would be fun to hear from the workers about bone-headed maneuvers on
the part of participants. Here's one I'll share, relayed to me by Ken
Patterson, long-time SCCA steward:
At the height of the petroleum fiasco / gasoline shortage, a guy in a
Scirrocco at Blackhawk Farms spun off the track and was retreived by a
tow truck. When the car was towed in the gate, a sharp-eyed grid marshal
stopped it, looked inside, and asked the driver what he was doing with
two Jerry cans in the back of the race car. The driver said "That's my
race fuel -- I didn't want to risk having it stolen while I was
racing....."
