That's a problem with SCCA Vintage here on the east coast, too. The cars
that have come out are ex-SCCA racers that are no longer as competitive
in their (former) groups with the newer cars. It (apparently) isn't very
appealing for someone from SVRA or VSCCA or even HSR with a more "stock"
car to compete against them. Their tech requirements -the "last time
out" spec also apparently requires more alterations that many of us are
comfortable with. However, if one were to prepare a car just for this
series, sort of "SCCA Lite" you could have a good time and do pretty
well. The race at LRP this summer attracted a fairly good turnout, and a
240Z won against a bunch of Volvos, one MGB and a couple of Bimmers. I
think it's just really impossible to do multi-club events with only one
car, so the choice of what type of car you like to run kind of dictates
where you can run. As for me, I think Laguna would be the most fun with
our old IMSA car!
