I think Dave Massey is spot on in highlighting the things that can go wrong w=
ith old looms. He=E2=80=99s also correct in saying the cars were built to a b=
udget and I=E2=80=99d add they were never built to last as long as so many h=
ave. Ten years was the engineered life expectancy. Dave is also prudent to c=
omment on the very limited number of fuses for the US market. However, it=E2=
=80=99s worth pointing out that in the days of yore, cars bound for Italy an=
d Sweden had completely different looms. IIRC, Italy spec cars had 12 main f=
uses and Sweden a few less. Sweden also banned the plating that was used on a=
ll hardware and fasteners and insisted on another form of plating. Trouble i=
s, I can=E2=80=99t remember what it was now. So, if you=E2=80=99re planning o=
n a new loom, get one made in Italy to original spec. Magneti Marelli used t=
o have a subsidiary that made them.
