I recall a weekend in the snow at a cabin with the sports car club I belonged to in the sixties. At the end of the weekend we all drove down the mountain in little flurries of blowing snow. I passed a car on the two lane road in my TR3A and club members just behind me followed. The only problem with that was there was another car approaching in the opposite direction. My pass had left me plenty of time. The people who followed me would not have made the pass in time to avoid a head on collision if they had not had an overdrive switch that gave them an instant up shift as they came even with the slower car.
