Remember when Firestone tires were blowing out on cars ? Out of millions of
tires on the road, there were less than 50 deaths blamed on sudden tire failure.
But when they put similarly defective tires on Ford Explorers, there were
hundreds of deaths. There's a message there.

It's not the SUVs themselves I object to, they have their place. Don't even
have a lot of room to talk, my "LBC support vehicle" weighs in at close to 3
tons itself (although it'll out handle almost any SUV). But I didn't chose it
because it was "safe", I chose it because I needed a truck to, well, truck
things around (like TR3 projects).
BTW, according to Edmunds, the 3 best selling vehicles in the US in 2003 were
trucks/SUVs. So are two more of the top 10.
