For the "flyoff" type, you hold the button down to set the brake. That
means when it comes time to release it, you can just sort of slap the lever
(enough to release the pawl) and let it "fly off" while you attend to other
matters like getting the gearbox in 1st and letting out the clutch. There
used to a popular kind of race where you start out with the handbrake set
and the driver standing beside the car; the flyoff brake shaved a precious
half-second or so from the time to get moving. It also ensures that you
don't drive off with the brake half-set.
BTW, "Reply all" is the correct way to reply to the list. If you just use
"Reply", your reply only goes to the sender, not to the list. However, it
may take the list server many minutes (hours, days) to process and send out
your email, depending on what else it's doing at the moment, how slow the
other mail servers are, etc.
If your comment is a general reply to the list, or you know the original
poster is not on digest mode, it's also polite to edit their address out of
the "To" field on your reply. That way, they don't get two copies, one
direct and one through the list.
