Andy, I have one on my TR3 and I love it. The "some modifications" part is
because it requires different wiring than your old starter. The "open drive
starter" is because the gear drive starter is different for TR2/3 and early
TR3A with the "closed drive starter". You just have to get the gear drive
starter that matches your flywheel.

I was concerned that my original starter switch would not handle the
increased current of the new starter solenoid (measured at 12 amps instead
of 2 amps), plus I like having the starter button under the hood. So, I
kept my original starter solenoid and used it to supply current to the new
starter solenoid. In practice, that means I moved the original starter
connection at the solenoid to the other terminal (so it is now connected
directly to the cable to the battery); and added a new wire from the vacant
original solenoid terminal to the side terminal on the new starter.

It's been almost a year now, of driving almost every day, and no problems at
all. I've almost forgotten what it's like when the engine fires and dies,
kicking out the Bendix and you have to sit there looking stupid while the
starter spins down. Did sound a bit strange at first, like cranking a jet
engine rather than a TRactor motor, but I got used to it ...
