>I followed the instructions in Dan Masters book. The voltage on the +
coil
term is 6v and 12v as it should be. Step 2 is to check for fluctuating
resistance across the points while cranking. It shows 0 ohms all the time.
I checked and the dist shaft does rotate and the points do open and close.
I checked the wire from the points to the coil. 0 ohms. Rechecked with
the
wire disconnected from the coil -- STILL 0 ohms. Checked the points to the
dist body - 0. Checked the grounding wire from the mounting plate to the
body - OK and 0.

Jay, this symptom is typical of mis-assembly of the wires to the points.
There are two nylon shoulder washers that insulate the points spring from
the metal post on which they are mounted. The braided wire to the coil and
the wire from the condensor should be mounted under the top shoulder wahser
and contact the point spring. If you mount the wires on top of the washer
the wires will contact the stud and nut which are ground.
Check out the assembly at this point and lets us know if this is the
problem. If it isn't start checking for chaffed wires and contact with
other metal parts.
Good luck
