I have not been able to get my TR6 to start. It stopped very suddenly and
had been running OK. It sounded like
the switch was turned off, no sputtering. I put the timing light on and it
did not show any spark. I decided it
might be the Pertronix so I took that out and put in points. I set the
points with the gauge, and then put on the dwell meter. I could not get a
reading. I put the whole thing together, put on the timing light, and still
no spark.
I followed the instructions in Dan Masters book. The voltage on the + coil
term is 6v and 12v as it should be. Step 2 is to check for fluctuating
resistance across the points while cranking. It shows 0 ohms all the time.
I checked and the dist shaft does rotate and the points do open and close.
I checked the wire from the points to the coil. 0 ohms. Rechecked with the
wire disconnected from the coil -- STILL 0 ohms. Checked the points to the
dist body - 0. Checked the grounding wire from the mounting plate to the
body - OK and 0.
Tried the coil in another TR6 and it worked. Since I replaced the Pertronix
with the points, and the wire from the dist to the coil is part of this
assembly, I think there is a problem in the distributor, but I don't know
what it is. Any suggestions??? Thanks.
