for a fruitful approach to repairing them. I did something very similar,
except I used a small piece of copper braid to bridge the gap.
BTW, new sockets are available from TRF, et al. However, the new sockets
(at least the ones I got) require a ground wire that was not originally
present. IMO using the sockets that take a ground wire (and adding the
wire) is a good idea ... the ground through the clip and housing is less
certain and can cause dim(er) tail/brake lights.
Also BTW, using 2357 bulbs rather than the usual 1157 will give you brighter
brake lights. They only draw 5% more current, so that shouldn't be a
concern, but they do have somewhat shorter life than the 1157 bulbs (rated
400 hours on the turn/brake filament, versus 1200 for the 1157). An
excellent trade-off, IMO.
