That says to me something is definitely wrong ... are you sure you hooked up
the links on the other side of the jet ?
The surface of the jet should be shiny smooth ... if not, polish it up with
rubbing compound. Wash thoroughly afterwards of course, you don't want
rubbing compound in your engine.
Wouldn't hurt to replace the springs either ... I always change them if
they're the least bit suspect. TRF, Moss, et al should have the springs for
just a few bucks each. Since you're having trouble, replace the springs
inside the jet housings too. It's not unusual for misguided mechanics to
stretch them in a vain attempt to stop the leak.
