I recall reading that Triumph began de-emphasizing the "Standard"
designation at least as far back as the 1960's. When the name was
adopted, "Standard" was generally understood to mean "The standard
by which others are judged." With time, the word came to mean
"ordinary," and was no longer seen as an asset.
