In most states in the US, it is illegal to drive with only the
parking lamps on. Usually won't rate a ticket, but often a ticketable
offense. They are supposed to be used only when parked in an unusual spot,
or such, not as a "running light" Most times people will flash lamps to let
you know they are on without the headlights, as often people run into a
store, leave the parking lamps on, and drive away afterward sans headlights-
not noticing due to the parking lot lighting, and the fact their dash lamps
are on.
Nice thing about the Jag I have is the fog lamps may be switched on with the
parking lamps- thus they are no longer parking lamps only!( I usually run
with both fog and headlamps at night- the amber beams tend to illuminate
more road area, and the stripes stand out more! And very helpful in
rain... )
