Hmmmmm.. for some reason my original message didn't go through, and no, I
didn't leave ANY of the previous message attached.
Anyway, on oil pressure - I have a Swallow Doretti that had sat in a garage
for 25 years. After soaking the rings with penetrating oil for a while then
oil, I changed the oil and filter, then pressurized the oil from an external
tank to blow out all the old oil and get fresh oil to everything before ever
turning the engine over.
I make a pressure tank with valve and gauge, etc, and plumbed it in where
the oil gauge goes. Put a pint of oil in the tank, pressurize, attach, oil
valve until pressure falls off. Hit starter to turn engine over (no plugs)
to get it moving and verify that oil pump is primed and generating pressure
on the gauge. After putting plugs and wires back on, turn engine over by
hand to clear out the excess oil, then repressurize, hit starter. I my
case, with a little gas added to the carbs, it came alive on the second
attempt with no problems! I was surprised.
