Oh my, the little beast roared. Took the TR4 last week for a short trip,
about 32 miles. Everything was working fine. The next morning, however, it
was not. Started it up, all seem fine, let it warm up some, pull out of the
garage. No problem. Driving down the alley, hear a tick tack or clickety
clack sound, very faint. Turn onto the street, everything is fine, though
only a half block and there is a stop sign. Make a right. Shift into second
gear, kind of move, it then made a horrendous groaning noise, pulled into the
nearest parking place. Turned off the beast then restarted, off seem fine.
Put into reverse, okay no problem backing out. Go a short distance to the
next intersection, in first gear, all is fine. Go around the corner, and about
short distance, 60 feet, its groaning again. Pull over, stop, ponder. Starts
up fine, make it back around the block into the alley and back into the
garage.
Just had the oil changed, transmission fluid checked. etc. I checked
the oil before I went to the lake, all looked fine.
My mechanic friend, saw just briefly, and what I said to him it sounded
like the transmission, though he thinks it might be the u-joint.
Anyhow, we should be looking for, or in the alternative, what will I be
looking at, and obtaining parts, in isolated Northeastern California?
Look forward to everyone's comments and expertise.
and you have no idea how much I want to take the TR4 on the road again.
Thanks -
