I hate to say this, but I've seen somewhat similar symptoms (on a
non-Triumph) with a spun rod bearing.  I'm not sure exactly how it happens,
but it seems that the crank passages line up at one particular point and
dump most of the pressure through the bad bearing.  For the rest of the
revolution, the main bearing clearance lets the pressure build.  With a
mechanical pressure gage, you could actually see the needle vibrate, but
perhaps the gauge in Canley Girl is better damped or (hopefully) this isn't
your problem.
