I've not done it on a 6, but have on a 4A.
First, use some RTV to stick the upper halves of the mounts in place,
so you don't have to fight those.
I've done it with the exhaust in place, but it is worth the effort to
remove them.
Next, I balance the diff on my floor jack (which is a trick in itself).
Situate the diff under the correct spot, but about an inch to the rear.
Lift until the brackets just clear the mounting studs. Move it
forward, the front mounts can then be supported on the frame rails. It
helps to tip the nose up a bit, but I don't think you need anything
like 45 degrees.
