I had the same problem with the original relay. The 'correct' replacement
started doing the same thing in about 6 months; I spent a long time
convincing myself that it wasn't a bad connection in the harness near the
relay. I'm pretty sure I did find one bad connection, too. I next replaced
the relay with a modern 'foglight' relay rated at 30 amps, it only lasted a
few months as well. I finally added a diode across the relay contacts, and
a modern 40 amp relay; that combination has held up for several years now.
