I did much the same with my 4A.(stripped it to bare metal) It was originally
a light blue. (sort of a robin's egg colour) which in retrospect and having
seen a restored one in that colour is quite nice. However, I always wanted a
dark blue. Back in 88 when I was prepping the car I looked at everything
blue. Corvettes New Yorkers, Cadillacs and on and on and on... Finally one
day I was in a jag dealership picking up some leather creme and there it
was. I believe the name is Westminster Blue. It's an 88 colour, which on the
colour chart looked black-if you covered the adjacent black chip. It's a
very dark blue and requires meticulous prep work before painting. ( I'm sure
the shop that did it lost their shirt on this job as they had quoted a
price).

Yes, it's not THE original colour nor is it AN original colour but it is MY
choice of colour and I think it looks great. Hey, it's my car, right!

Go with what you like, and if you're not totally out in left field... you'll
be able to sell it for a good price if you have/want to.
Cheers
Don

I'm new to this list so let me know if I've broken any protocalls.

On the subject of color and value... I am just starting the restoration of a
59 TR3A. The car has been stripped down to bare metal everywhere. I don't
know the original color. I intend to keep this car indefinately, and am not
too concerned about showing it formally. I don't see any dark blues for a
TR3A and am thinking of making it a 75 Jaguar Ocean blue (It is a solid, not
metallic color). I had a 64 E-type years ago I painted that color and loved
it.

Any thoughts on going with a non-original color as far as value/
acceptablility with my peers goes? Any one know of pictures of dark blue
TR3s on the web? Any pictures of the 58 Winchester blue available? Any other
more original alternatives?

Thanks,
Curt
