Thanks for all the tire responses. What it all comes down to is that the original tires (tyres?) are 185-15. Those tires are a 78 series tire, i.e. 185/78-15. This gives a sidewall height of 144mm (.78 x 185) This is the same as a 205/70-15 (.7 x 205 = 144). Since the sidewall height is the same, the diameter is the same. So you get a tire that is nominally 20 mm wider and the same height.
