Teriann,
I just checked my TR3 wiper circuit and there are two solid Green wires on
terminal #2; one Black/Green wire on terminal #1; one solid Black wire with
a split spade terminal on the ground screw; and a Black wire with a large
ring terminal on the front wiper mounting bolt, to the inner fender. My
wipers work perfectly.
I can't comment on the new harness, but when my brother, Randy and I were
doing the restoration, the harness was one of my concerns. I didn't want to
throw a perfectly good wire harness away just because some of the 40
something year old cotton loom was shot. The wires were perfect! I found a
nylon loom that I was able to get as a sample from the manufacturer and we
stuffed the old wires into the new nylon loom with excellent results. No
problems, not one miswire or electrical problem. We felt pretty good about
that!
Your charging problem reminds me of a problem I had years ago with a '58 TR3
that I drove for several years. It had a charger problem just as you
described, the voltages all checked out, but it wouldn't charge. In
desperation, I finally paralleled the Yellow wire (I believe) with a 2nd
wire all the way from the regulator to the generator. That fixed my charging
problem. Of course, this was after I had replaced both the generator and the
regulator! My guess is that the wire had partially broken so that voltage
could be felt across the old wire but there was too much resistance for
adequate current to flow to allow the battery to recharge.
As always YMMV, etc.
Good luck and let me know how this all plays out.
