K&Ns for TR-4A w/ SU HS6s

Hi,

I'm looking at installing K&N air filters on my 66 TR-4A.
Moss lists two sizes for 1 3/4" carbs (that is what a HS6
is, right?), 1 3/4" deep and and 3" deep.  I assume "deep"
means how wide the element is, and that wider (deeper) is
better?
