Randy,

Answer to your first question is yes. As for other tricks, you might
consider using something like Permatex "The Right Stuff" to seal the front
sealing block. It's nice and thick and will stick well while upside down. As
for your leak, have you confirmed it's from the sealing block? There is also
a seal around the crank shaft inside the timing chain cover. That could
potentially contribute to the leak as well. Much more work than the front
sealing block but can also be done with the engine in the car. If you go
this route, consider using a double lip version of the stock seal -- suggest
you get a stock one and go down to your local bearing supply house to get a
double lip version of it (easier if you have one in hand, they probably
won't know what a TR6 is).
