Hi Folks
The first thing my Dad said when I got home having passed my driving test
was, "Good now you have a licencse to improve your driving abilities, it
does not mean you can drive well!"
"And by the way it is not about how fast you can go but how fast you can
stop."
I was also lucky enough to have him teach me the way to use a Motorway
safely, how to merge, change lanes smoothly and fluently, make life easier
for others trying to merge by moving to the centre lane if safe to do so and
if you can't, by holding a steady speed rather than trying to match their
speed while they try to match yours.
Now a question for you all, in England we have the highway code, do you have
the same type of thing in the States, and if you do when was the last time
you bought an up to date version and read it, We (my partner and I) buy a
new one every time they change it and we read it, and I also read it at
least once a year, often to resolve disputes with coleagues about what is
right or wrong! This doesn't automaticaly make me a better driver but maybe
more aware!
Graham.
Nomex on just in case!
| I believe the root of most of the problems we encounter on American roads
| can be traced to both a lack of proper driver training and feelings of
| entitlement to one thing or another by society today.
| It all boils down to prudent and responsible behavior whether in the left
| lane or possibly any of the other 10+ lanes to choose from. While not
| generally in favor of more governmental regulation, I am of the firm
belief
| that a bit more training or requirements should be necessary to enable a
| person to possess a driver's license.
