TR-6 Clutch (Toyota / TRF uprated TO bearing)

Subject: TR-6 Clutch (Toyota / TRF uprated TO bearing)

I know talking more about these clutches seems like beating a dead horse. . .
but I have to ask about people's TR-6 clutch experiences.

I contacted TRF and told them that my the "uprated throwout bearing installed
on sleeve" that I purchased from them (Toyota Land Cruiser Bearing) was making
an irritating scraping kind of noise when it lightly touches the clutch spring
fingers.

I wanted to be on the record with them as saying that the bearing made strange
noises IMMEDIATELY upon installation, just in case it deteriorates and needs
replacement.

Other than the noise, which I overcame with a TR-4 type return spring for the
cross shaft, the clutch seems to work very well. When I hold the clutch in at
a stop light, there is no noise. Only when the bearing is just barely making
contact with the diaphragm spring fingers.

TRF had a tech rep call me, and he started back pedaling saying that this
uprated throwout bearing was intended only to be used with their magic clutch
kit and not the standard Borg and Beck clutch I bought. ( elsewhere)

I got pretty irritated and said that I hadn't seen any such indication in their
catalog, and furthermore, they shouldn't sell it separately if that is the
case.

So . . . now I'm looking for other people who have used this uprated / Toyota
bearing and different clutches. (Borg and Beck, Laycock, Beck Arnley, LUK, . .
. whatever)

If you all could e-mail me success (or failure) stories with this throwout
bearing, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Scott Tilton

Please note:

I'm not saying the bearing doesn't work as advertised.
I could have gotten the extremely rare defective Toyota part.
I could have also made some sort of error on installation.
I'm certainly not infallible. Although the bearing came installed on the
sleeve, so I can't take any heat for doing a bad pressing job.
