TR3a RIM, headlamp (split type)

I reinstalled the headlamps this afternoon and after ten years I don't
remember how the dust seals fit, nor what holds the rims on. Do the rims
somehow slip in behind the head lamp to body gasket so that it is covered and
doesn't show, or does it clamp onto the retainer ring some how? The split rims
don't clamp down tightly enough to snug up on the retainers.
