It may be an old indy racer but all true Offenhauser 4 cylinders were double overhead cam designs. They were a continuation of the Miller engines that dominated Indy in the 20's and 30s' which were in turn inspired by the 1913 Peugeot Indy car engine. Offenhauser also made bolt on speed parts for flathead Ford V8s as well as Ford A and B engines which were used in a lot of dirt trackers through the late 40's. If it was a flat head 4 it was probably an A or B powered dirt tracker. Cheers, Kurt Oblinger |
