Gusset?

This is about the triangular piece of metal that sits in the lower rear 
corner of the door opening - called a gusset or a reinforcement as far as I 
can tell. My question is what's the finish on it? My 4A had a vinyl cover 
over it but I'm not sure that wasn't added at some point. The seal goes over 
to edge to be sure but what about the face of the triangle. Is it a finished 
paint-body color? Or is there a 'cover' of some sort that goes over it.
