Hi,
I thought I'd throw this one out to the collective wisdom. I am
rebuilding a Herald clutch master cylinder on which the internal bores are
fine - there will be no problem with getting the unit to operate reliably.
The problem I have is the general glaze and oxidation on the outside of the
cylinder body, as well as some rust from the steel cap in the threads. I
really would like to get this back to the correct look, but short of
polishing with a buffing wheel, how can I remove the buildup? I don't want
to polish as this will affect the cap locating threads and the cast
lettering on the side of the cylinder. Is there a solvent in which I can
immerse the bare body without fear of it attacking the bores in any way?
Thanks for any responses,
Cheers,
Bill.
