Hi Roger, 

I think the rule of thumb is "if the car keeps going after the part
falls off, you didn't need it anyway", with the corollary that the car
will now be faster and more fuel efficient due to the reduced weight...
;-)

p.s. use more chewing gum under the trim strips in the future.
