I got the bits exchanged no trouble even though the bottom ball joint was
not resalable due to it's press fit nature, I know this is no more than one
should expect as it was not my error but we all know how some of the
suppliers can be about things like that! I took the car to have some new
tyres fitted, and at the same time had a four wheel alignment done,
absolutely astounded me as the operative started by checking the rear wheel
tracking without being asked, never had that before! Turns out even though
the whole back end had been lowered to fit the new bushes it had gone back
up in the correct position with the wheels parallel, both with one another
and the body, guess that would be because I took all the tools and some
shims so I could correct it. I felt sure it could not be back in the right
place, my luck isn't like that usually. I am not surprised by the difference
that the new bushes have made as I had that experience with my MKI when I
redid that one a couple of years ago, I am however delighted to have me a
brand new car to drive (well it drives like a new car)! Whilst I was in the
process of renewing things I fitted some new pads to the front brakes, the
ones on there had a good thickness of lining material but had been on the
car whilst it had stood for years, I left them on the car to clean the rust
off the disc, I am sooooo glad I changed them as the lining was detached
from one of the backing plates and well on it's way to detached from at
least one other backing plate, so for all you people with low annual mileage
vehicles, don't just check the thickness of your pads, push them away from
the disc and make sure the linings are firmly fixed to the backing. My guess
is that the problem arises due to the porous nature of the material and the
pads not being kept dry by regular use!
