Steve-
I suggest checking out the NJ DMV website, and Email them with an
inquiry about "classic car registration" I believe they only recently
introduced this program, to allow owners of cars ( 25+years old) to avoid
the traditional inspection ( requiring only a very minor checkup) with the
provision that you only drive 5000 miles per year and insure the car as a
classic. Maybe a few other requirements, but nothing severe. This is NOT
the same as the "QQ" license plate scheme, which only allows very limited
driving i.e.. to and from shows etc... I received some written stuff from
the DMV and will be registering my car under these provisions next year. ( I
already paid for '00, and there are no credits for transfers to the
'classic' reg.)
Welcome to NJ, despite what many think about this state, there are
some really nice places for lbc cruisin, it is not all Jersey City and
Newark Airport. That's just where we send all the tourists..

In about two weeks I will be moving to Western New Jersey from the Chicago
area. I would welcome any advice New Jersey listers could offer about
driving and licensing a classic car in the state, reliable mechanics and
upcoming events.
