The best line ever on a similar topic was in Car & Driver back in
about 1988 or so when Lotus introduced their "NEW" Lotus Elan. In
comparing the new Elan with the old Elan, the author wrote something
to the effect of this:
"The new Elan uses built-in deformable structures to absorb the
energy of a crash impact, while the old Elan used the OCCUPANTS as
"deformable structures."
Pretty funny, I thought. I too, have slowed down my driving over the
years... My dad used to chide me for what he called "jamming"...
basically his term for driving too aggressively. Now he tells me I
drive like a grandmother and I'm nervous when riding along when HE'S
driving!!
In almost 15 years of driving I've not yet had an accident in the TR
nor any other car I've owned, with the exception of a couple of very
minor incidents where someone has "lightly" rear-ended me with
virtually no damage. Fortunately neither of those were in the TR.
