'Tis possible, I've done it.  Don't even have to pull the trans tunnel or 
crossmember.  Just drop driveshaft, remove flange, remove old seal, put in 
new seal, etc.  Check the sealing surface on the flange, it may also need 
attention.  (I didn't do anything to mine, which is probably why it still 
leaks <g>)
