After a brief baby-related hiatus from british cars, I'm looking to buy
a TR4 or TR4A. I'm looking for a well restored or excellent original
TR4/TR4A to make the most of Colorado's mountain roads and the 300 sunny
days we have each year -- even though sunny days seem quite un-british.
:-)
I have two young boys, and right now I'd rather spend my time driving a
TR than restoring one, so I'm looking for someone who has a well
finished car. So far, the around $8K TRs that I've found require more
work than I want to undertake at this point, and the over $15K cars
require a little more cash than I want to part with at this point. If
you are selling, or know someone who is selling, a very good TR4 or TR4A
that falls in between, please contact me. TIA.
BIO and INTRODUCTION (car related)
My first ever car was a TR6, but I started late. I'm 32 now, and bought
a TR6-in-a-box as my first car ever when I was 25. No previous
automotive experience, in fact I got it because a) I remembered cutting
out TR ads as a kid, and 2) I hated NOT being able to work on cars. My
new bride (first and only) was skeptical.
Several years later I'd spent a lot of time and made a little progress
on the TR6 -- in part thanks to this email list -- but swapped the
project for a '47 Willys and picked up a running Austin Healey '64/'60
"bastard" bugeye at the same time. I got a '77 CJ5 as a daily driver. My
wife was slightly more approving.
Then a couple years ago we started a family, and we needed TWO carseats.
And I needed a car with a back-seat. With not one backseat among my
three, they all went. I found a one-owner '72 BMW 2002. My wife was
pleased.
Now, our systems and network consulting firm is taking off, and my wife
is elated. First furniture, clothes, and a college fund, but now she
thinks a "new" car for each of us would be a good idea. She gets a
practical Honda CR-V if she wants, but a "new" Triumph sounds better to
me. So now I'm pleased.
AFA raising the next generation of Triumph enthusiasts, my two year old
Ben's first words were "daddy", "mama", and "car". I'm just lucky that
"mama" came before "car". ;-)
