Peter,
After I posted my response, I thought about just the same thing - that there
is a "joining" of the two carburetors at the inlet manifold on my TR6.  So,
I am still doing the test correctly, in my mind.  I think the key here is
identical adjustment on each carburetor.

As far as testing each exhaust pipe:  I was initially thinking of was a
friend's Jag E-type with multiple carburetors.  Each of his carbs suck
directly into three cylinders.  And then his cylinders exhaust into two
exhaust pipes.  My second scenario of testing each exhaust pipe individually
works for him.

Thanks, this is sort of what I thought.

BTW, in response to Eric Conrad's reply to this question, according to Roger
Bolick (I think he's the one), the exhaust manifold also allows mixing the
two exhaust streams, not just in the muffler. I haven't verified it but he
stated some time ago that the manifold had a port joining the two streams
(front and rear carbs). FWIW.
