Tony, about 10 years ago I put an Alpine Radio / cassette into my 4A. I had
to enlarge the opening because there weren't a whole lot of options at the
time. In order to hear anything with the top down at highway speeds I
installed a power amp and originally mounted it under the passenger seat. I
moved it to the top of the passenger side kickpad since I thought that if I
ever got caught with the top down I'd short something out. New technology
may offer a small unit that does not require a separate amp. I strongly
suggest 25W as a minimum. As for speakers, there are problems with the
doors being narrow, obstructed and looking unoriginal when you are done. I
installed "cube" speakers on brackets which have separate woofer / tweeter
elements and can be angled. The brackets can be mounted to many existing
bolts under the dash. If memory serves me well I think I tied into steering
column bracket bolts on the driver's side and glove box bracket bolts on the
passenger side. By drilling holes in the speaker bracket to fit what's
there you don't need to drill additional holes into the car. Installing
these will send you to the chiropractor for a week (ask me how I know) but
the results are decent sound that is very much hidden from the casual
observer.

Subject: Radio Selection for TR4A
As the header says, I want to fit a radio in my 4A. I have not
noticed any readily
available units which fit the cut out in the dash support.
What is the experience of the list on new radios to fit? Since the
car
is pretty noisy, I am not looking for a high end radio (hopefully).
What about speakers? WHere to put them without major damage to the
"originality"
